(Philadelphia, PA) August 8, 2012, Grammy® winning duo Helen Bruner & Terry Jones have just wrapped up shooting  their video for Beautiful You Are off their album Hollyhood which held the #1 spot for five consecutive weeks on the Official UK Soul Charts 2011 released on the Philerzy Productions label.

Bruner & Jones chose Emmy® winning Rodney Whittenberg to direct Beautiful You Are because of the treatment he sent them for the video and his attention to detail . "Rodney's approach to the song was fresh and different from the other treatments we received, which we loved" said Helen.

The video was shot in 2 days in the duo's hometown of Philadelphia.  "Without giving away too much of the concept I would say there may be some controversy with a few of the scenes" said Terry.  Bruner & Jones selected Beautiful You Are off the Hollyhood album because it is a crowd pleaser at their live shows but more importantly it has been talked about in the media that the love ballad has left the building in r&b. The duo wanted people to know true classic r&b ballads are alive and well.   The video for Beautiful You Are will be released on September 30, 2012.

Purposeful lyrics, powerful delivery, seamless production skills and voices brimming with full-bodied soul: it's hard to get more accredited or more enjoyable than the duo of Helen Bruner and Terry Jones. A Philadelphia-based  duo with an impressive resume (commercial jingles, film score work, vocals with Method Man and Redman, collaborations with Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion and a Grammy nomination for Ms. Bruner, to name just a few), The ladies should consider their days numbered as under-the-radar showstoppers with this latest release, Hollyhood.

A follow-up to their 2006 debut, Superstar, Hollyhood embodies all of the duo's urban appeal and trend-eschewing talents. Salacious ‘do me' scenarios? Nope. An abundance of Auto-tune? Not necessary. Helen and Terry don't need any of those clichéd gimmicks to stand out, because their nuanced lyrical narratives and rich, resonant sopranos do the trick. The music may not be edgy enough for the younger set, but most heads will nod and feet will tap from beginning to end, whether it's the saucy up tempo, "Better," the resigned-to-reality kiss-off, "You Runaway" ("I'm walking out the door, cuz' I can't take no more/no need to run from me, take back your keys I'm setting you free") or the provocative, riches-to-rags ballad, "Miss Mary," about an-around-the-way woman whose addiction to drugs caused her to lose it all: "She used to be fly, Mary had it going on in her life/ But secrets inside began to eat Mary's soul and oh/she started to do things that Mary would never do....what did Daddy do to change you?"

Thanks to Ms. Bruner's and Ms. Jones' enviable vocal blend, relatable material and more than enough sass and conviction to keep it all percolating----"Let You Go" is a destined "yeah-girl-kick-him-to-the-curb" anthem, "Weekend" is tailor-made for Ladies' Night and they pour on sex appeal minus the smut factor in "Chocolate Star"----Hollyhood is for anyone who enjoys authentic, organically-created R&B. If you've never heard of this delightful duo, treat yourself, and if you're already privy to the ladies, don't deprive yourself another minute, because kicking it in Hollyhood is well worth the trip. Highly Recommended.

GRAMMY® NOMINATED DUO AND AGGRESSIVE SOUL SIREN PAY HOMAGE TO LABELLE

HELEN BRUNER & TERRY JONES AND CHINAHBLAC REMAKE THE LABELLE CLASSIC

"WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU"

(Philadelphia, PA) August 9, 2011, Grammy® Nominated duo Helen Bruner & Terry Jones and Aggressive Soul Siren ChinahBlac have come together to remake the Labelle classic What Can I Do For You to be released on September 13, 2011 on the Philerzy Productions label.

Bruner, Jones, and Blac wanted to pay homage to the iconic Labelle and chose What Can I Do For You because it was a fan favorite and the lyrical content is so timely for what is going on in the world today.  "On one of our late night calls I came up with the idea of the three of us recording the song and Helen & Terry said okay come on lets do it, said Chinah. When Ms. Sarah Dash of Labelle found out the ladies covered the Labelle classic she tweeted  Helen & Terry "I know you Owned It. Looking forward to hearing it. Call me when you have the listening party."  "We were so honored when we received that tweet from the legendary Sarah Dash" said  Terry.

The ladies keep the continuity of the original song while adding their own style.  " We wanted to stay close to the 1974 original and just update the textures and sounds to 2011, said Helen.  The ladies wanted to get as close to the Labelle sound sonically so they called on recording engineer Craig White who recorded & mixed songs for the 2008 Labelle reunion album Back To Now, to help assist in mixing the remake. What Can I Do For You is produced by Bruner & Jones while all three ladies share vocal production credits.

Bruner, Jones and Blac will tour together to support the release of What Can I Do For You and their current individual projects Helen Bruner & Terry Jones cd Hollyhood and ChinahBlac's cd Introducing Eugenia Shata . On July 30, 2011 the ladies gave a surprise performance at the  6th Annual Lincoln Park Music Festival  in Newark, NJ to a crowd ten thousand  plus who continued to scream for more.  On September 13, 2011 Philerzy Productions along with co-sponsors  DJ Qua from 98.7 Kiss Fm and Let's Get Em' Entertainment will present the What Can I Do For You  release party at the Key Club in downtown Newark, NJ.  Bruner, Jones and Blac will take to the stage to perform and DJ Qua will serve as the host for the evening .  Get ready for Helen Bruner & Terry Jones and ChinahBlac remake of the  Labelle classic What Can I Do For You!

This duo are totally new to me, and I was not certain as to what I may find, going by the title of the album and the cover. Having eyed it warily and thinking 'oh dear, here we go again' I am much relieved that within a few seconds my grossly and wildly inaccurate assumptions have - yet again - been laid to rest. This lovely little independent set is as soulful as you like and will definitely be up your street if you like mid-uptempo funky soul laced with real instruments, sass and soul! There is none of this crass girlie R&B drivel which I thoroughly expected. Instead we are treated to passionate vocals with energy and soul and very much NOT in the recent vogue of whining and vocalising. The wah-wah guitar, synths and live drums are totally in the right zone for me and tracks that I assumed would be crass urban rap nursery rhymes such as "Holla" could not be further removed from this.

having been so nicely surprised I have settled into this album very quickly and have warmed to these young Ladies in a big way. Who could be surprised, really, when young Miss Terry Jones has none other than the legendary Linda Jones whose recent "Soul talking" had the song "Baby I Know" earning a Grammy nomination for best traditional R&B performance. Talent, then, runs in the family! Fans of Rufus will easily find something in the opening song, "Better", to make them feel right at home. The great rhythm, scratchy guitar and spacey synth combined with the zestful soaring vocals easily wipe the floor with the likes of Mary J Bilge (sic) and all the other R&B nasal whiners and vocalisers clogging the airwaves like a blocked sewer. As far as this grumpy old, dyed in the wool toad is concerned, I am happy to pay full purchase price for this track alone. Thankfully there are far more gems on here, including the aforementioned "Holla" with it's funky 70's vibe. Superb! The dreaded title of "Hollyhood" is of course NOT a street dirge but another fizzing funky soulful number and a piece of social commentary to boot.

"You Know" me with it's clapping beat and stabbing synth/horns contains some great 80s styled warbling guitar and yet again a great, uptempo rhythm that is very much in the yester-now bag. "Miss Mary" has a nice vibe and the melody reminds me of something that I would have heard on something purchased in the 1986 - 1989 period. More social commentary and well worth a spin not only at home but on quality radio too. This being good, though, is surpassed by the SUPERB feel-good vibe of "Let You Go", a song that Rufus and Chaka Khan could easily have tackled in the early 1980s. This vibe would easily be welcome on an Eric Benét set, or even Rahsaan Patterson album. Truth is, if you loves these songs - and I know you will - you will appreciate the rest of the album. It's a genuine pleasure to hear these sorts of tunes emanating from artists flush with youth. Please check out this album and simply pop it on, enjoy it and smile widely.

Do You Remember Linda Jones the Empress of Soul? Keeping Us Hypnotized with Soul Talkin' Collection  Linda Jones Soul Talkin' Songwriters, Producers, Artists Terry Jones & Helen Bruner Linda Jones – The Empress of Soul Soul singer-songwriter Linda Jones (1944-1972) may not have been a household name to all, but she had the respect of her many peers like Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and a loyal following in the U.S. and around the world. Primarily known for the 1967 R&B classic, “Hypnotized” (Warner Bros./Loma), Linda received recognition for her version of Jerry Butler’s classic, “Your Precious Love,” and perhaps thee definitive version of “I Who Have Nothing.” Ms. Jones recorded some half-dozen studio albums for various labels such as the aforementioned Warner Bros./Loma, Gamble & Huff’s Neptune label and Turbo/All Platinum prior to her passing in 1972. For all of her talent, and zeal for music, Ms. Jones experienced a great deal of financial loss due to shady management-representation. She also died way too soon at the young age of 27, due to complications of diabetes. Linda’s music has been featured on numerous Soul compilations, and “Best Of” re-issues, but her daughter Terry Jones, and her longtime producer-singing and business partner Helen Bruner have recently released Soul Talkin'’, a collection of unreleased yet re-mastered Linda Jones tracks, distributed through their indie label Philerzy (a playing combination of Philadelphia & New Jersey). In the spirit of Natalie Cole’s “Unforgettable” duet with her dad, Nat, Terry and Helen have recreated a similar vibe, utilizing studio wizardry to create some amazing vocal collaborations with the inimitable Ms. Jones. Already, the project is generating amazing buzz with the album’s powerful focus cut, “Sway Me.” This writer believes that Soul Talkin is chock full of undeniable songs like the powerhouse “Can I Dig It,” “Miss New,” and the sass of “Linda’s 2 Minute Slow Jam.” Part of Linda’s musical charm was her penchant for soul-talkin’; an engaging conversation that takes place during interludes or breaks on her record, pre-dating today’s prevalent rap style cadence. Mostly produced by Terry and Helen, brothers Robert & Richard Poindexter (The Persuaders, O’Jays, Amy Winehouse) are among the list of collaborators who contributed to Soul Talkin’. What prompted Helen and Terry to revisit and release these musical gems? It was just the right time the ladies responded. “Every time people found out I was the daughter of Linda Jones, I would hear, ‘I love your mother’s music. I miss that voice. When are you going to do something else? Do you have anything else on her?’ That’s what prompted me to want to do something,” says Terry. “I’d get letters and emails and didn’t realize the full effect she had on people through her music. I decided it was time to release some music on her. What really hit us is that Helen and I were in Tokyo and walked into a Tower Records, there was my mother’s album right up there in front with Mariah Carey and everyone else. It was at that point that I knew we had to share some of this music that had never been released.” Of course, these studio sessions evoked many personal memories for Terry as both she and Helen were able to connect with Linda on both a musical and emotional level. “It was really, really deep,” says Terry. “We don’t know if it was the vibrations or what, but it felt like my Mom was right there with us. It was finally like I could rest. I have always dreamed of doing this type of project and I finally got the opportunity to do that. You can only imagine growing up as the daughter of Linda Jones and hearing her music all around and not getting any royalties because she had a shady manager and producer who took all of the royalties. So it was a different experience of being able to do this.” Going into this project from a business aspect, Terry says she now controls the rights to pretty much all of her Mother’s music. There are some loose ends still to tie-up, but putting out an independent project like Soul Talkin’, is the first step to keeping her mother’s legacy alive and within the family. “Terry and I are both artists and now business-women, so both sides of the brain are working here,” says Helen. “Both Terry and I have been through the major label systems and know how it works. This album is something we felt we had to do. We’re an independent, and there are some things that we are limited to. But the love of her music by her fans has been so well embraced. The music will go where it’s supposed to go. “ To purchase Linda Jones’ Soul Talkin’, visit CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, Target.com, or Philerzy.com by David A. Mitchell
